The other day Simple Homeschool had a post by Rachel Wolf about her Homeschool Mystery Days. These are great for EVERYBODY, not just homeschoolers.
“Mystery Day begins with a simple set of instructions.
I tell the children what to wear (a swimming suit, a nice outfit, or maybe their muck boots) and what to pack (like a sketch book, a water bottle or a hip sack.)
I pack our remaining gear in secret, hiding away anything that would reveal our destination.”
I love this idea and though it might be hard to implement them in the summer because most of our Adventures are on Z’s calendar, I would love to start them next school year. My good friend Claire does this all summer long. Her boys know what to wear but they never know where they are going or who they are going with. Everyday is a Mystery and if plans change last minute, there is no disappointment. In the blog post, Rachel has some great ideas for simple and inexpensive (or FREE) Mystery Days. I am thinking next school year we will do a Mystery Day one Friday a month…Love It!
