For those of you who have been following this blog for awhile, you know how much we love birds in this house. Last year we started participating in Cornell’s Project Feeder Watch and that brought our love to a whole new level. Watching the birds every morning (only counting on Tuesdays and Wednesdays) became one of our favorite winter activities. You can read a post about this love from last year HERE. We loved their predictable habits and the chance to participate in real science.
Tomorrow is the day we hang our bird feeder and Tuesday will be when we start counting our birds. They have already started gathering at the tree we keep the feeder at, even though it is not there. It is as if they are getting ready for winter and are just as excited about Project Feeder Watch as we are!
For a small fee of $15, you too can join Project Feeder Watch and enjoy months of bird watching and counting for Cornell’s Ornithology department. With that $15, you receive a bird id poster, a magazine and detailed information about how to make your counts. The data can be sent in online or via the mail. The season lasts until April and I am pretty sure you can start anytime before March.
So what are you waiting for?!?!? If you haven’t already, go and check out Project Feeder Watch. It is a fun and relaxing activity for all ages.
